Atlantic Salmon fly-fishing conditions on the Miramichi at McNamee as of August 27th . At Wilson’s in the McNamee area , which is 30 miles upriver from Blackville the river is down to a perfect fishing level and we have tons of both fresh and summer run salmon . The water is still a little high for the large Big Murphy Pool but most other pools are fishing well . It is so strange how fishing goes at times , Keith L. fished here for three days ( 23, 24 & 25 ) in the really hot weather and only caught one small grilse but then it cooled off Monday night with a few showers yesterday and Mike P. and Charlie M. got into 16 fish ( limit for two rods /two days ) between Monday evening and last night . I was on the water last night ( testing Orvis trout Rods ) and hooked five fish , all of which were fresh- run . All of my fish were taken on the Green machine with white calf tail . The long range weather forecast is for cooler weather so with any luck the early fall fishing should be fantastic . I still have a few rods available for next week if anyone is interested in the best salmon fishing the Miramichi has seen in years , sorry no discounts for September .

    Hi Keith,

I read your posts quite often and I fully enjoy the updates on the current fishing conditions.

As I understand the angling restrictions, an angler is to only catch and release up to four fish per day and no more than four. You stated that two individuals may have hooked upwards of eighteen fish in two days. If they in fact only landed half of those fish than they would still be in violation of these angling restrictions as well. You also had stated that you had hooked and landed five fish in one evening.

The water conditions this year have provided some exceptional angling, and I am only cautioning that we should be more careful about the number of fish that are being angled.

  2. Hi Jason-
Thanks for reading my report and good feedback as well . Sorry for the confusion , the two guy’s that did so well hooked , not landed , 16 fish in two days , that is four fish per rod per day so even if they were to land them all it would be 4 fish per rod day , just what the law allows . My lucky night with 5 fish hooked , I only landed 3 , which is still darn good fishing in my books .
Again, thanks for reading and your worthy comments .

  3. Hello Mr.Wilson.As an active fisherman and fellow conservationalist I have experienced both book knowledge and on the job training as you would call it,about this fishing experience at wilsons. As it goes wilsons has one of the most beautiful places on the miramichi river and that ain’t no joke.I was reading some of your feedback and it don’t take long for some people to call you out on certain things. You take it in stride.Just like this wonderful river you go with the flow.Keep up the good work and Don’t let them bring you down.Happy fishing and I look forward to seeing you in the fall. Over and out.
