Cains River Trout

Hi Keith,

My name is Chris Leger (with the Dieppe Fly Tying Club) and I had the the opportunity to meet you last year, actually, we rented your camp for the night last July at Wildcat, “awesome time”. Just wanted to say hello. I’m always on your site reading the river reports and looking at photos, you have a fantastic site. I have included some photos of a few Sea-Run Brookies that swim trough your pools and in front of your camp, these fish were hooked a little further up-river. Feel free to post these on your site. All the Sea-Run Brook Trout that I hooked last year ( 57 in total, both on the MSW and the Cains) were released properly and unharmed. These fish are a treasure and must be protected. I will be talking to you soon, till then, tight lines.

    Hi Chris-
    Thanks for the hello and great pics . I was on the Cains two nights ago and struck out , the water is up so maybe I just hit it between the run . There were guys there on the weekend and did allright . I missed the best of the trout run this year on the Miramichi , too busy with maintainence work when the run was on but some of the local boys did very well , you guy’s in the headwaters should do well . We are getting into a few rocky brook run salmon so with this superb water we should have a decent early summer for the Atlantics . The rivers to the north and Quebec have their salmon in right on time this year , so that is encouraging . I am offering some great deals on private pools with a housekeeping cabin for NB residents this summer , depending on the number in your party you can get up to 50% off retail . If you have any spare salmon dry fly’s I would be interested in buying a few dozen , stop in sometime .

    Best, Keith

    Hi Keith. Love your website. I have not fished yet this year but this post has made me pretty restless. I was just curious if you often rent the cabin at Wildcat? I am interested in the possibility. That stretch of river is my favourite in all of NB and I have released many trophies. Well, I just thought I would ask. Cheers

    Hi Chris;

    That last picture shows Wildcat in the background and has some great memories for me. My dad worked and guided for Keith Wilson and we are “third generation” friends. There is no-one better qualified to operate a sports camp than Keith Wilson and the smile on your face is reflected on anyone that gets near that area and the hospitality of its people.

    Happy fishing!

    Hey Guys, I was up to the cains two weekends ago, and got a couple of trout about 15 inches…thats a record for me. I was just wondering where I can find a map of the cains. I have no idea what the name of the pools even are? What a beautiful spot though.
    thanks
    Joe

    HiJoe-
    On my main page you will find a link to river maps , keep an eye on this section I will soon be posting an old Cains River map that used to belong to my grandfather. If you are in a big hurry you can stop by my lodge in McNamee for a photo copy . Good luck on your quest for the big 20 incher this season .
