I came across a copy of a news paper report dated March 1972 . It listed recordings of ice runs from 1935 through 1971 at Boiestown . The earliest ice run for that period was March 22, 1937 and the latest was May 2nd , 1961 . Average ice-run dates seemed to be around April 15th . Another interesting note was that the angling season would open with the ice-run . The best fishing as reported over the years by guides is always after the river begins to warm up ,
which can change almost daily as the weather may change .
