Sorry for the delay in getting this out folks , but it is hard to type when your hands are all wet and slippery from handling big trout on the Cains . In brief the run does not appear to be as good as the previous two years but we are getting into some nice fish just the same . I fished Rt 123 Bridge and Hopewell Sunday night with one nice fish at Hopewell . Hopewell is holding a few fish but the fishing pressure is high with it being the local boy’s favorite open pool . I lucked out on the draw with a couple of friends so got to fish “Lower Cains” reserve two days , again with mixed results . Karl lucked into this big boy at Acadia Bridge Pool and I had two in the fifteen inch range . I fished Sure Spot with only one take ( 14 inches ) and Blue Rock gave up one eighteen incher but still not many fish showing . The water seems to be low and very clear so maybe with this rain today and the obvious rise coming we might see more fish on the move next week . Reports from Upper Cains early in the week was about the same , a few big fish but overall numbers down over previous years counts .
My best luck was with a royal coachman but as soon as the water cooled down and dropped even more I took my other two fish on a #10 green machine with a glitter tail , go figure , who in their right mind would be using a green machine for trout on the Cains unless they were desperate like I was , but it worked so who knows .
