Atlantic salmon fly-fishing conditions and report for the Miramichi River at McNamee on June 1st . We had a nice rain over the weekend that brought the Cains up app. 6 inches and the Miramichi app. 4 inches . This is the perfect rise at the perfect time . We are seeing tons of sea-run trout on the Miramichi at McNamee. There is a good may- fly hatch going on so the trout are getting plenty to eat . One local angler reported a big trout at around 18 inches , my best luck was on Sunday morning before the hatch came on nothing , big but plenty of 10 – 14 inchers all on a green wooly bugger. I was lucky enough to sink a hook deep into my finger but after assistance from my daughter holding the eye down tight with her thumb I wrapped apiece of old fishing line around the bend in the hook shank and with one quick snap the hook came flying out . Key point is to hold the eye down very tight .
With this raise of water I expect that the Cains will be right on schedule for the big run . I stayed at Wildcat on Saturday night and was about carried away by the black flies , perfect sign for good fishing .
